Mamata’s photographs taken down from Assembly offices, 4 key chambers sealed temporarily

Major administrative changes have begun inside the West Bengal Assembly complex ahead of the formation of the new government. The rooms of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip have been ordered to remain temporarily closed, with entry restricted for the time being. According to administrative instructions, the restrictions are expected to continue through Thursday and Friday before normal functioning resumes after the swearing-in ceremony of the new government.

At the same time, photographs of outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee have been removed from ministers’ rooms inside the Assembly complex. Repair, maintenance and cleaning work is also underway across multiple ministerial chambers and other sections of the Assembly building. Electrical switchboards, air-conditioning systems and other infrastructure-related issues are being repaired as part of the preparations.

Officials from the Public Works Department have been conducting repeated inspections inside the Assembly building and the Assembly Annex Building. According to sources, preparations are underway to establish the Chief Minister’s Secretariat inside the Annex Building. Employees working within the Assembly premises have also reportedly been issued fresh administrative instructions as part of the transition process.

Security arrangements across the Assembly complex have been strengthened ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for May 9 at Brigade Parade Ground. Police personnel have reportedly been deployed outside several restricted sections of the complex, including the corridor leading to the Chief Minister’s chamber. Administrative activity within the Assembly has intensified as preparations continue for the transfer of responsibilities to the incoming government.

Governor R. N. Ravi formally dissolved the previous West Bengal Assembly government under constitutional provisions after the tenure of the Assembly ended on May 7. Chief Secretary Dushmant Nariala issued an official statement confirming the dissolution. Although Mamata Banerjee has not submitted her resignation as Chief Minister, the Governor exercised powers under Article 174(2)(b) of the Constitution of India to dissolve the Assembly ahead of the formation of the new government.
